Landowners & Māori Land Trusts

This growing season (Oct 2026 to Feb 2027), we will be working with a limited number of farmers, landowners and Māori land trusts to grow different varieties of industrial hemp, in different locations and soil types. If you’re interested in growing hemp this year or in the future, we’d love to hear from you!

The Pilot: What To Expect

We will work together in the planting, maintenance, and harvest phases, adhering to regulatory requirements for industrial hemp and quality standards for building grade hemp fibre.

The baled hemp will be processed either out of region or on small scale equipment into building grade hurd and bast fibre, for which there is confirmed demand. This first season isn’t about making huge profits, but learning which varieties grow best on which blocks, covering our costs, investing in small scale equipment and most importantly, connecting.

We are the pioneers, collaborators and problem solvers. When we are met with a challange, we will work together to overcome it, prioritising relationships, our collective goals and the bigger picture.

The learnings from this pilot will be used to develop processes, procedures, relationships and best practice guidelines for the following season which will scale up significantly, bringing many more growers on board. Returns will increase from the second season onwards, particularly when Kōrikoriko Hemp Aotearoa’s Regional Processing Centre is commissioned in 2028.
